Working from client site – Part 2
lets continue…
Well that was all about the how i reached and how i managed to get a car.
When you work directly with client there are so many things you have to keep in mind[Its all bout my view and my experience.]
1. Ofcource, language barrier.- As mentioned being from India my slang has got a MTI(Mother tough influence) and i found that when I try to speak fast they end up understanding nothing. So speak clearly and maintain a level of volume and no blah blah…..
2. Never try to introduce your own changes/ process- I started working with my client where they have their own IS department which runs without any process. Only process they follow is they don’t give administrative access to the system allocated to you[Come on man.. how i will get my messenger and winamp installed
].
One issue with me was being brought up technically in an enviorment where there is a process for everything, documentation for everything. And being a local admin access to my machines I was enjoying the power of computing
.
3. People related- Well this is the main and important one. Unfortunately or fortunately I work in a company where 50% are more than 45 years old. They are never ready to accept changes, No complaints they are good at their work. But change is inevitable, No process, nothing.. they are very dedicated. They will reach office by 7.30 and will go home by 4 pm and they always completes their work. Again no complaints. But… they have draw-ed their boundaries.. no one goes in or that never expands or he will never come out.
4. Job security- When they see an Indian coming as consultant, the first thought is come on man we are going to loose our jobs, Really , then they make that boundary marking clear and always make sure that they have a BIG dependency so that no body fires them. Well, I want make sure that , we are not hear to take you jobs , you management thinks and knows that we are cheap labour. Hmmm , but I don’t think this will continue like this, Rupee dollar distance is getting decreased. Don’t know god or bad for us.
Guys there are so many stuffs to write , but… my hours are billed for doing work not for blogging.
Look out for some new topics.
Working from client site- Part I.
Well, this is always difficult. On-site, even I came to see how things work here, thinking, it will be an easy one.
As on my first assignment to work with client, i reached Illinois on Aug 26. Everything was fine till i reached here. When i reached i wanted to call home and tell them i have reached here safely,please understand it was more than 16 hours flight and one more thing is while i was in Blore, i used to call home every day, I miss my parents. And in O’Hara airport I was searching for a phone, i found one but no coins with me. those forex guys never give any change.
Some how I reached the Hotel, very near to hillside landfill. Room number 143, the sweet lady was so nice on the front desk. Well i thought i will be able to make a call from the hotel, then she said i have to pay $25 to activate phone, else i can make only local calls. Well i paid that,
Please note that i have to pay this from my pocket. Well after paying that also I was not able make a call to home. Then some how i called my manager and asked him to call my brother and tell him that i reached safely.
Come on yar, just think of how many STD/ISD booths are there in India that too every corner. One great reason to say India is great . I miss those STD booths

Well, one thing I want to share is Madhu, my manager, is a very nice guy, well out side office he was a real brother to me as he was aware that this is my first trip, he was telling me everything. Every morning he calls me before he starts from his apartment and make sure i am ready, and comes to the hotel and picks me and evening drops me. And there were days where he was working from home and he came just to pick and drop me alone. And I always made sure that he never waits for me. And I remember I lied him about driving car, I told him that I have a car at home which i drive So that he will arrange me the company rented car. Then he arranged one , after giving a test to him on my hotel front yard, where I could manage to drive his rented Chevy Cobalt. And you wont belive that madhu, came with me to our apartment on the first day to see hows my driving even the next day he called in the morning and was asking whether he need to come to show the way. You must be lucky to get a manager like that.
I am talking so much about madhu, well to give you an intro, he is a delivery manager for GCI Solutions operating from NJ, he is an IIM-A. I think no more descriptions needed. He good manager & friend and technically too goood.
Friends, please note that I learned driving a 4 Wheeler 2 weeks before I came to Chicago.
And I could manage to get a IDP(International Driving Permit). Now from tha last one and half months I am driving a car, Hyundai Elentra. Ofcource a rented one for I am thankful to Mr.JD(Jithendra) of Avis. He could manage to get me a new car and he promised me that at any time I can go to him and switch car. Nice NRI guy
To b e continued…

=======================================================
Leaving On A Jet Plane
All my bags are packed I’m ready to go.
I’m standing here outside your door.
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye.
But the dawn is breaking it early morn.
The taxi’s waitin he’s blownin his horn.
Already I’m so lonesome I could die.So kiss me and smile for me.
Tell me that you’ll wait for me.
Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
Cause I’m leavin on a jet plane.
Don’t know when I’ll be back again.
Oh, babe I hate to go.There’s is many times I’ve let you down
So many time I’ve played around.
I tell you now they don’t mean a thing.
Every place I go I’ll think of you.
Ev’ry song I sing I’ll sing for you.
When I come back I’ll bring your wedding ring.
So kiss me and smile for me.
Tell me that you’ll wait for me.
Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
Cause I’m leavin on a jet plane.
Don’t know when I’ll be back again.
Oh, babe I hate to go.Now the time come to leave you.
One more time let me kiss you.
Then close your eyes I’ll be on my way.
Dream about the days to come.
When I won’t have to leave alone.
About the times I won’t have to saySo kiss me and smile for me.
Tell me that you’ll wait for me.
Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
Cause I’m leavin on a jet plane.
Don’t know when I’ll be back again.
Oh, babe I hate to go.
I’m leavin on a jet plane.
Don’t know when I’ll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go.

2. John Denver-Take Me Home Country Roads.
=======================================================
Take Me Home Country Roads
Almost heaven, West Virginia,
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees,
younger than the mountains
growin’ like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home,
to the place I belong.
West Virginia,
Mountain momma,
Take me home country roadsAll my mem’ries, gather round her,
miner’s lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky,
misty taste of moonshine
teardrop in my eye.
Country roads, take me home,
to the place I belong.
West Virginia,
Mountain momma,
Take me home Country roadsI hear her voice in the morning hour she calls me,
the radio reminds me of my home far away
and driving down the road I get a feeling
that I should have been home yesterday,
yesterday.
Country roads take me home,
to the place I belong.
West Virginia,
Mountain momma,
Take me home, Country roads
Country roads take me home,
to the place I belong.
West Virginia,
Mountain momma,Take me home, Country roads
Take me home, Country roads
Take me home, Country roads

3. John Denver-Im Sorry.
=======================================================
I’m Sorry
It’s cold here in the city
It always seems that way
And I’ve been thinking about you
Almost every day
Thinking about the good times
Thinking about the rain
Thinking about how bad it feels
Alone againI’m sorry for the way things are in China
I’m sorry things ain’t what they used to be
But more than anything else,
I’m sorry for myself
Cause you’re not here with me.Our friends all ask about you
I say you’re doing fine
I expect to hear from you almost anytime
But they all know I’m crying
That I can’t sleep at night
They all know I’m dying
Down deep insideI’m sorry for all the lies I told you
I’m sorry for the things I didn’t say
But more than anything else, I’m sorry for myself
I can’t believe you went away
I’m sorry if I took some things for granted
I’m sorry for the chains I put on you
But more than anything else,
I’m sorry for myself
for living without you.

C# Compiler Optimizations
With the advent of generic support in the C# language appearing in the .NET Framework 2.0 developers have new leverage for writing code that can be reused without compromising type safety.
The C# Compiler for .NET version 2.0 has added field initializer optimizations to avoid generating IL to explicitly set types to their default values. This includes literal values as well as any constant expression whose result is the type’s default.
private int i1 = 0; // the default value for integral types is zero
private int i2 = new int(); // … the parameterless constructor also yields
// the default value for value types
private int i3 = default(int); // … the new default(T)syntax in VS 2005
private int i4 = 1 – 1; // … but also constant expressions
private string s1 = null; // … null is the default value for reference types
private string s2 = default(string); // … which can also be written as default(T)
private string _userName = default(string);
private string _machineName = default(string);
private int _maxThreads = default(int); private int _numberOfCurrentThreads = default(int);To read more about this optimization, look at Peter Hallam’s Blog.For some more reading : Introducing Leverage code reuse
WWW Robots…
A Web Crawler or WWW Robot is simply the easiest way to find better search results from more of the Web. A crawler is a program that visits Web sites and reads their pages and other information in order to create entries for a search engine index. The major search engines on the Web all have such a program, which is also known as a “spider” or a “bot.” Crawlers are typically programmed to visit sites that have been submitted by their owners as new or updated. Entire sites or specific pages can be selectively visited and indexed. Crawlers apparently gained the name because they crawl through a site a page at a time, following the links to other pages on the site until all pages have been read.
I have done a fair research on this and created presentation[ personal_robots-exclusion-standard.ppt ], which is attached with this post.
Please feel free to shoot comments.
